Homophones, homonyms and homographs… It’s easy to get these mixed up. I always use this trick for remembering how to spot a homophone – ‘homo-‘ means ‘same’ and ‘-phone’ comes from ‘phoneme’ so it means ‘sound’. So homophones sound the same! But this trick would not work on little children. Here’s a lesson plan I created just for teaching about homophones to first or second graders. This fun lesson introduces homophones and encourages group work and whole class interaction and discussion. Word cards to be used are included (for a matching activity) and can also be used as word wall cards. Get it here at my TPT Store.
