A Fun Homophone Lesson Plan for 1st and 2nd Grade

Homophone lesson plan

Discover How to teach about homophone with this comprehensive Homophone Lesson Plan. It is common for students to get homophones, homonyms, and homographs mixed up. I always use this trick for remembering how to spot a homophone; ‘homo’ means ‘same’ and ‘phone’ comes from ‘phoneme’ which means ‘sound’. So homophones are words that sound the same but have different spellings and meanings. This trick might not be enough for students to ‘get it’. Here’s a lesson plan I created just for teaching about  homophones to first or second graders.

Homophone Lesson Plan

It is great for ELLs.

Are your studsents ready to learn about homophones? A prerequisite for learning about homophones is that your students should know that different sets of letter combinations can give the same sound. For example ‘-ay’ and ‘ai’ or ‘n’ and ‘kn’.
