Homophones, homonyms and homographs… It’s easy to get these mixed up. I always use this trick for remembering how to spot a homophone – ‘homo-‘ means ‘same’ and ‘-phone’ comes from ‘phoneme’ so it means ‘sound’. So homophones sound the same! But this trick would not work on little children. Here’s a lesson plan I created just for teaching about  homophones to first or second graders.  This fun lesson introduces homophones and encourages group work and whole class interaction and discussion.
