Yesterday was a very special day for my island of Tobago. It was election day for us to vote for a new leader (or the incumbent) of the Tobago House of Assembly.
It was so exciting to receive the results last night. Interestingly enough, these results were consistent with the ‘in school’ election drill that we did last Friday. The pictures below show the students hosting their election campaign and debate. The voting process followed. We tried to make it as authentic as possible. See the ballot cards and ballot box above? So cute!

This was a fantastic idea! I like the fact that this was a school effort. It shows a true reflection of the importance of each individual in the democratic system.
What a wonderful idea! Gives the students a realistic, hands-on activity that prepares them for the day they'll be old enough to vote. We did that in my classroom back in November (for the US elections) and the students LOVED it!
It's very interesting that your school's votes matched the country's ratio.
I love the idea of researching platforms and a candidate's stand on issues and then having the students debate as that party. Very creative and meaningful!
