Play the Steel Pan from your Android!
The creative arts ‘umbrella’ is the most fun part of our curriculum here in Trinidad and Tobago. It’s actually a combination of folk and classical singing, instrumentals, dance and drama. Every school here can choose the instruments that the students will learn to play from the Ministry of Education because each district has its own musical culture so the choice of instruments will vary. My personal favorite is the Steel Pan (which is our national instrument).
The students usually perform at Christmas when we have our annual Christmas concert to show off their new musical skills. There are also other island-wide events that they attend to represent the school throughout the school year.
Anyway, aside from practicing at school, the students are now able to practice at school (via an android device). The pan teacher introduced them to the Digital Pan app. It’s free! Well, you know how very modern the children are these days… They started using it right away. My daughter plays it at home and I’m kind of relieved that I don’t have to get an actual Steel Pan because I don’t know where in the house it would fit!
So, if you are curious about the Steel Pan, you can download it for free and Play the Steel Pan from your Android!
