A black chalkboard needs really bright, neon, or pastel colored liquid chalk markers for there to be contrast to make the colors pop. Generally, for most themes, you can used bright colorful markers. How to Clean Liquid Chalk Off Chalkboards

Some brands of liquid chalk are easier to clean off your chalkboard than others. Most liquid chalks wipe-off easily with a damp cloth or wet wipes.
